Shimla, May 15

A 52-year-old man from a village in Hamirpur district became Himachal Pradesh’s third coronavirus fatality on Friday, officials said.

Officials said that the man had returned from Delhi to Hatli village in Hamirpur's Nadaun area on April 29, and had since been under home quarantine.

He tested positive at a hospital in Hamirpur, and was moved to a COVID care facility in Bhota. His health worsened on Friday morning, and health authorities moved him to Mandi Medical College. He died as soon as he was brought to the hospital, said the authorities.

Meanwhile, a man who recently returned to Una from Mohali tested positive on Friday. The patient had been kept under home quarantine since his return, officials said.

The man tested positive after random sampling and will be moved to a COVID hospital, said the officials.

Another case surfaced in Fatehpur tehsil of Kangra district, taking the total number of positive cases in the state to 77.

The 22-year-old male student had returned from Delhi in a taxi on May 8 along with his father, who works as a lab technician in the national Capital.

The father-son duo were put under home quarantine and tested for the virus as they had mild symptoms.

The youth has now been shifted to Baijnath for institutional quarantine, while other members of his family, including his mother and sister, have been kept in home quarantine.

Himachal has 35 active cases, while 39 people have recovered from the infection.

Kangra’s toll has increased to 19, including 14 active cases and one death.
