Jammu, January 29

Acting tough against people involved in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals, police have arrested 22 persons and seized 24 vehicles in Kulgam district of Kashmir.

Police in Kulgam constituted multiple teams under the supervision of SSP Sahil Sarangal, which during multiple raids, patrolling and naka checking arrested 22 persons and seized 24 vehicles (15 tractors, 7 dumpers, 1 tipper and 1 JCB machine), involved in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals from Veshaw river and other nullahs of the district.

Regarding these incidents, cases under relevant sections have been registered at Devsar, Qaimoh, Qazigund, Kulgam, Kund, Behibagh, Manzgam, DH Pora and further investigation have been taken up.

A police spokesperson urged the locals to come forward or dial 112 regarding any information about illegal extraction of these resources either from Veshaw river or from any other nullah in the district. Police also warned stringent action as per law against those people found guilty in the said crime.
