BJP’s Rana trying to weaken party with alliance claims: NC

Srinagar, February 17

As BJP leader Devendra Singh Rana claims that the NC leadership sought an alliance with the BJP even after the abrogation of Article 370, the NC has accused him of attempting to undermine the National Conference’s “growing momentum” in the upcoming Assembly polls.

“Who will BJP leaders try their best to bring down, on TV & in the field? Their political enemies. Who will amplify the BJP’s propaganda? Their friends. Politics isn’t as complicated as it made out to be,” NC spokesperson Ifra Jan said.

“I would have said ‘that which is said without evidence can be dismissed without evidence’. But instead consider this. This is a statement given by a BJP leader to weaken the JKNC wave in the upcoming Assembly elections,” the spokesperson said. “But the question is why BJP is so desperate to weaken the JKNC? Because we are their political enemies. They know it, and are acting like it. Those who are their allies and friends are amplifying the attacks. Have you ever seen a BJP leader attack Apni Party or Peoples Conference or Democratic Progressive Azad Party?” she said.

Rana has said after the 2014 Assembly elections, the National Conference leadership had been keen to tie up with the BJP, but the latter had repeatedly not accepted that offer. Rana’s claims follow Thursday’s statement of NC veteran Farooq Abdullah in which he said the NC’s doors were open for all, including the NDA.
