No scholarship for 522 SCs as bank transactions fail

JAMMU: After the transaction to disburse Post-Matric Scholarship for 328 students under the category of the Scheduled Caste (SC)/Other Backward Classes (OBC)and Economically Backward Class (EBC) of Jammu Division had failed, another transaction of over 500 students failed again.

After the transaction to disburse Post-Matric Scholarship for 328 students under the category of the Scheduled Caste (SC)/Other Backward Classes (OBC)and Economically Backward Class (EBC) of Jammu Division had failed, another transaction of over 500 students failed again.

As many 522 students were not able to get the scholarship due to recent failed transaction for 2017-18 and 2018-19. All 522 students belonged to the SC category. This time too, a majority of the students were from Jammu, Kathua, Samba and Udhampur districts.

The strength of SC students eligible for the scholarship from Rajouri, Poonch, Reasi, Kishtwar, Doda and Ramban distrivts is not very high.

“We have also been told to submit 16-digit J&K Bank account number along with correct Indian Financial System Code (IFSC) within one month.

This scholarship is lifeline to many students to pursue their studies as parents are not capable to bear their expenses for higher studies”, said Kapil Kumar, a student.

Selection criteria/eligibility for Post Metric Scholarship

-The selection of students is based on the availability of funds, academic merit and income.

-Have an annual family income less than Rs 1 lakh per annum for OBC, EBC and Physically Challenged candidates and less than Rs 2.5 lakh per annum for SC candidates.
