Security staff at MBD Mall on Ferozpur Road today staged a protest and went on strike alleging they have not been paid salaries for the past two months. Earlier, too, when the mall was opened after the lockdown period, the security staff went on strike, it was only after the intervention of their hiring agency and management of the mall they had resumed work. Today again, the security staff went on strike.

Harpreet Singh, a security guard, said they came to know that the mall was hiring other security staff while the existing employees had not received the salary. “Where should we go, if they hire new staff? At least, they should clear our dues. In a way, they have shown us the door and that too, without giving salary. They owe me Rs 24,000 for two months,” said Singh. He said the mall first needs to pay the agency and thereafter, we would get our salaries.

On the other hand, official spokesperson, MBD Neopolis Mall management, said, “We have been paying to the security agency, based in Delhi. The security agency is behaving unprofessionally and trying to extort more money from the management. We have found deficiency in their services and decided to change the agency now.”
