The absence of computed tomography (CT) scan facility at the local Civil Hospital is giving a tough time to patients, especially those admitted to Emergency Ward.

Patients are either sent to Christian Medical College and Hospital for a CT scan, as Civil Hospital has an MoU with it, or referred to Rajindra Hospital, Patiala.

Surinder Singh, whose son had suffered a head injury, was asked to visit the CMCH for getting his son’s CT scan done. “The hospital should have its own CT scan machine as visiting other hospitals wastes a lot of time and energy,” he said.

Another patient said he was referred to the CMCH for a CT scan of his mother who had fallen on the floor and suffered a serious head injury. “I had to wait for a couple of hours before I could get her CT scan done. Had the machine been there in the hospital, it would have saved a lot of time,” he said.

Dr Geeta, Senior Medical Officer at Civil Hospital, said the hospital would get a CT scan machine under the PPP mode, but she was not sure how long it would take.

“Patients are either referred to the CMCH or Rajindra Hospital, Patiala, for getting a CT scan done,” said the SMO.
