Ludhiana, February 28
The Ludhiana police today claimed to have busted a gang of vehicle thieves and arrested three of its members. The police recovered seven motorcycles and five mobile phones from gang members.
The suspects have been identified as Harsh Singh, alias Harry (21), of Sawan Vihar Colony, Arshpreet Singh, alias Goni (19), of Bhamian Kalan and Gagandeep Singh (19) of Bhukhri village. Harsh and Arshpreet are cousins.
The ACP, Industrial Area - A, Jaswinder Singh, while addressing mediapersons said the suspects had formed a gang of vehicle thieves and had been committing crimes for the past over eight months.
On Tuesday, in-charge, Mundian police post, ASI Surjit Singh, had received a tip-off that the suspects were roaming in the area. The ASI laid a naka at a strategic place where they were arrested. Stolen vehicles and mobile phones were recovered, he said.
After committing thefts, the suspects used to sell stolen items to some shopkeepers. Two shopkeepers were also booked in the case. The suspects used to visit city areas and after noticing two-wheelers, they open locks using a master key and steal the same. Afterwards, on the stolen vehicles, they used to commit mobile snatching, he said.
A case was registered against the trio on Tuesday.
