Ludhiana: Two minor girls, aged 14 and 17 years, were reported missing from different localities of the city since Saturday. Shyamu, a resident of Dhandari Khurd, lodged a complaint that his daughter had left home in the afternoon without telling anybody. He suspected that Alakh Ram, a resident of the same ‘vehra’, might have lured her to elope on the promise of marrying her. A 17-year-old girl was reported missing from MIG Flats in Moti Nagar area. The girl’s mother Manpreet Kaur lodged a complaint that she had left home on Saturday evening but had not returned. She suspected that Kundan Kumar, a resident of Sherpur Muslim Colony, might have abducted the girl. The police have booked the accused under Sections 363/366 of the IPC in both the cases and are investigating further. oc
Man booked for abetting suicide
Ludhiana: The police have booked Prince Keswani, a resident of Nirmal Nagar, under Section 306 of the IPC for allegedly abetting the suicide of Manmohan Singh (40). The victim’s wife, Baljit Kaur, a resident of Kartar Nagar on Tibba Road, lodged a complaint with the police that her husband had taken a loan from the accused about two years ago for business. “Prince was harassing my husband for repayment of loan. He committed suicide by jumping into the Gill Canal in frustration on July 17,” Baljit said. oc
One arrested for smuggling liquor
Ludhiana: The police have nabbed Amandeep Singh,
a resident of Phase 3, Shaheed Karnail Singh Nagar, for allegedly smuggling liquor. Acting on a tip-off, the accused was arrested from near Domoria Bridge and 24 bottles of Royal Stag whisky and 36 bottles of Imperial Blue whisky were recovered from his possession. He has been booked under Sections 61/1/14 of the Excise Act. oc
Man held with poppy husk
Ludhiana: The police have arrested Narinder Singh,
a resident of Sahnewal, with 2.5 kg of poppy husk. A case under Sections 15/61/85 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, has been registered in this regard. oc
