Telangana Rashtriya Samithi chief K Chandrashekhar Rao could be sworn in as chief minister on Thursday.

KCR—as the incumbent chief minister is popularly called—said he wanted to hold his oath ceremony at 1:24 pm, but this was subject to Election Commission of India’s approval. The time was decided after TRS consulted KCR’s priest Laxmi Narayan Acharya.

His priest told The Tribune that the next hour and a half after 1:24 pm was auspicious because the “stars were aligned for good and peaceful rule”. Acharya was called to the TRS legislative party meeting for his opinion.

KCR was appointed leader of legislative party at the meeting that lasted an hour.  TRS sources said a team from Delhi was expected later on Wednesday evening to verify Tuesday’s results and issue a gazette notification for KCR’s swearing in.

He will take oath with another cabinet colleague. The rest of his cabinet would be sworn in later.

KCR is a devout Hindu and a firm believer in astrology.

TRS was re-elected with a thumping majority in an election that results showed was overwhelmingly one-sided. TRS won 88 of the assembly’s 119 seats, leaving its chief opposition Congress with 19 seats.
