Transgenders will be included in the list of beneficiaries of the National Food Security Act in Rajasthan, an official said on Friday.
The decision was taken in a meeting of the task force chaired by state Chief Secretary DB Gupta. There are around 16,500 transgenders in the state as per the Census 2011.
The secretary of the food and civil supply department, Mugdha Sinha, said the department had received a proposal from the state transgenders’ welfare board.
In the meeting, a consensus was reached on including families involved in prostitution in the list of beneficiaries. The chief secretary gave directions to officials to identify such families, the official said in a statement.
