Two ministers on Wednesday expressed displeasure over the delay in action against Akalis for their alleged complicity in sacrilege incidents and subsequent police firing at Behbal Kalan and Kotkapura.

During the Cabinet meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, they expressed concern that the congregation at Bargari on October 7 and October 14 was a manifestation of anger not only against the Akalis, but also against the Congress.

They told the CM that if the Congress was credited with tabling the Justice Ranjit Singh Commission report, the issue could script the political obituary of the party if it is not taken to its logical conclusion.

It is learnt when Technical Education Minister Charanjit Channi raised the issue, his Cabinet colleagues Tript Rajinder Bajwa and Sukhbinder Sarkaria interrupted him, saying that the CM was already on the job of taking action against the culprits.

Capt Amarinder, however, allowed Channi to speak. The latter was supported by Cooperation Minister Sukhjinder Randhawa, who said the way people were hounding the Akalis, the day was not far when Congress leaders would face a similar situation for not acting against Akalis.

In reply, the Chief Minister is learnt to have said that he had already resolved to expedite the matter. After the meeting, Capt Amarinder left for Delhi to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress president Rahul Gandhi.
