Abohar, September 16

Multifaceted development in the border area in Fazilka district has impressed the 62-member Jammu and Kashmir delegation on Punjab tour.

The delegation, led-by Block Development and Panchayat Officer Mohammad Akbar includes six women sarpanches. Amandeep Kaur, a young sarpanch of Fatehpur village in Baramulla district, said she was impressed by the record development in the state villages.

Model of communal unity

We have seen a model of communal unity in Amir Khas village of Abohar. We will also like sarpanches from Punjab to visit Kashmir. Amandeep Kaur, Baramulla village sarpanch

“Besides, record development in Amir Khas village, communal harmony here is also commendable. We have seen a model of communal unity in this village by observing equal respect being given to a temple, gurdwara and a dargah. We would also like sarpanches and other public representatives from Punjab to visit Kashmir,” she said.

Begum Akbar Jan, Ganderbal’s Laman village sarpanch, said she was satisfied with the development work. Sarpanch Ata Mohammad of Kangan village said the Punjab panchayats had ample resources due to their arable land, which they in Kashmir lacked. Sarpanch Mohammad Ramzan said he was amazed to find out that there was a sewage treatment plant in a village too. The delegation had come on a four-day visit to have a closer look of villages and towns in the state. — OC
