After spending Rs 30-35 lakh on Government Primary School, Badrukhan village, NRIs, panchayat and residents have proved that government schools can be made better than private schools without government aid. All NRIs and their families were honoured on Saturday during a function in the school, which is the only government school in the district to start free school bus service for its students.
“Like me, all NRIs of the village want to contribute for the development of our village and mainly for education. We have donated money and will donate more if need arises,” said Yadwinder Singh, a Canada resident who migrated from the village in 1990.
Families of other four NRIs — Gurdeep Singh, Sukhwinder Singh, Charnjit Singh and Darbara Singh — were also honoured during the function as the NRIs could not attend the function.
“With the help of the village panchayat, we have started free school bus service for our students. The number of students has been increasing every year as our board results of Class V have been 100 per cent for the last three years,” said Vishal Sharma, head teacher of the school.
The school has total 275 students from pre-nursery to Class V. It has eight rooms, out of which four have been constructed recently. Every room has been painted specially keeping in view the age of class students.
Apart from this, the school has a generator set, two water coolers, LED TV in the head teacher room, while the installation of CCTVs would be done in all classrooms in the coming some days.
“To provide best education, we are spending as much as we could,” said Harbans Kaur, village sarpanch.
