Amritsar, October 22
After officials of the district administration sought 10 more days to redress the grievances of the victims of the train tragedy, which snuffed out the lives of 59 persons, the victims’ families called off their proposed agitation at Jaura Phatak here on Tuesday.
Their demands included jobs to the next of kin, fixing responsibility and accountability in the accident and punishment to the guilty officials.
Deepak Kumar, a relative of a victim, said, “Though it seemed that the government was buying more time, they were ready to cooperate.”
AAP leader Ashok Talwar said all actions in the tragic train tragedy seemed to be eyewash. He said repeated promises of the government proved hollow. — TNS
