Abiding by the Election Commission of India’s guidelines on making elections accessible for every citizen, the Civil Hospital authorities today held a voting-awareness camp for physically disabled people.

The seminar was conducted by the chief electoral officer and the Deputy Commissioner, Dr Basant Garg, and the Civil Surgeon, Dr Pradeep Chawla.

Informing participants about their voting rights, Garg said as an Indian citizen, it is their right to vote and demand the accessibility to exercise this right. According to the notification issued by the ECI, every polling booth should give priority to voters with disabilities and have ramps and wheelchairs to escort them. The voting material should also be accessible.

Garg said more such awareness camps would be held on a regular basis to ensure information access to every voter.
