Two killed in separate road accidents

AMRITSAR: Two persons, including an elderly man, were killed in two separate road mishaps in the rural belt here on Saturday. Kulwant Singh (70) was going on foot near Bandala village when a "speeding" private bus ran over him.

Two persons, including an elderly man, were killed in two separate road mishaps in the rural belt here on Saturday. Kulwant Singh (70) was going on foot near Bandala village when a "speeding" private bus ran over him. He died on the spot and the driver fled, leaving the bus behind. Acting on the statement of deceased’s son Jagjit Singh of Safipur village, the police have registered a case under Sections 304-A and 279 of the Indian Penal Code. The driver of the bus is at large. The police said that the accused would be arrested soon.

Another mishap that took place near Bal Bawa village claimed a life. The deceased has been identified as Sakattar Singh (34). The mishap left another man, Gurdayal Singh of Sarupwali village, Gurdaspur, injured. They were on a bike when a tipper hit them near Bal Bawa village, falling under the Jhander police station here. Lakhwinder Singh, brother of the deceased, said he was on his bike while Sakattar was riding pillion to Gurdayal Singh on another motorcycle. They were returning from her maternal grandparents’ village (Harchowal) to Begowal, when a tipper hit their bike. They were rushed to a hospital. Sakatar Singh succumbed to his injuries while being taken to the hospital.

The driver of the tipper has been identified as Major Singh, a resident of Bal Bawa village. He fled the scene. A case under Sections 304-A, 279 and 427 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against him. The police said he would be arrested soon.
