Chandigarh, March 18
Littering a public place or dumping solid waste at vacant plot and depositing construction and demolition waste at non-designated locations will cost the violator heavily as the UT Administration has notified the solid waste bylaws today.
The bylaws give the Municipal Corporation (MC) the power to recover the entire cost of removal of waste from the violator.
The MC will serve a notice on the owner or occupier of the premises where the violation took place requiring him to clear the waste. The notice will specify the time period within which the violation has to be removed.
If the person on whom the notice has been served fails to comply with the direction, he shall be liable to pay penalty as prescribed by the MC from time to time.
MC officials may enter the premises and clear the waste and recover the expenses incurred on it from the occupier. The cost of labour and the rent of the machinery and other equipment used in clearing the waste will be recovered from the owners.
