Chandigarh, November 27

Five months after she was booked, the UT police today arrested a con woman, identified as Kamla Chaudhery. Kamla was booked for duping 40 people to the tune of Rs 50 lakh in June this year. An FIR was registered at the Sector 31 police station. The police arrested her from outside the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

Kamla, a resident of Sector 47, was evading arrest since June. Preliminary investigation revealed that she took shelter at various ashrams in Haridwar and Rishikesh to evade arrest. At the District Courts, she had given a guarantee of joining the investigation, but failed to do so.

The police said she collected money from hundreds of investors in the name of kitty parties and committees, announcing rewards through the lottery system and won the confidence of people for eight years.

People from Panchkula and Mohali also used to invest money in her ventures. Some people had invested around Rs 5 to Rs 8 lakh.
