City MP Kirron Kher has taken up the issue of confusion caused due to the contradiction of routes earmarked by the Chandigarh Administration and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), with the UT Administration and NHAI.

In a letter written today to the UT Adviser, Parimal Rai, a copy of which is sent to the Chairman, NHAI, Kher has not only sought a clarification regarding National Highway-21 (New NH-205) passing through Chandigarh but has also requested the Adviser to look into the matter personally and direct the authorities concerned to take immediate necessary action to resolve the issue without further loss of time.

Further, she has requested that in order to mitigate the hardship being faced by the hospitality industry, adopting the route as per information supplied to the Hotels and Restaurants Association, Chandigarh, by NHAI under the RTI Act 2005 should be considered.

In her letter she has mentioned that representatives of the Hotels and Restaurants Association, Chandigarh, had brought to her notice that the Chandigarh Administration had earmarked the route through Junction 38 (Tribune Chowk), (Hotel JW Marriot Chowk), (touching Vikas Marg upto Sector 39 Chowk) as National Highway – 21 (New NH-205) and no heavy vehicular traffic was allowed on the route from 6am – 11pm. Whereas, information procured from the National Highways Authority of India by the Hotels and Restaurants Association, clearly shows that NH -21 is routed through Junction 38 (Tribune Chowk), (Mohali Check Post), to (upto Sector 39 Chowk).

Kher has stated in her letter that there is a confusion due to the contradiction of routes earmarked by the Chandigarh Administration and the National Highways Authority of India. Resultantly, hotels and restaurants business was affected badly as they were not being allowed to serve liquor after the judgment delivered by the Supreme Court.

Kher seeks clarification
