Adding colour to the butterfly fauna of Uttarakhand, the one spot grass yellow butterfly (Eurema andersoni) has been sighted in Uttarakhand. This rare butterfly was last sighted nearly 100 years back.

The Kumaon forest authorities, under the guidance of Chief Conservator of Forest Pramajeet Singh, had conducted a survey of the present status of butterflies, which revealed the presence of one spot grass yellow butterfly in Almora district of Kumaon.

Entomologist Sankar Kumar, who sighted the butterfly, disclosed that he captured the photographs of this butterfly in the Jageshwar range of Almora district on April 11.

This butterfly was recorded in the Mussoorie area last time in 1899. “This is a small butterfly of the family Pieridae, which is found in the country from Sikkim to Arunachal Pradesh,” disclosed Sankar.
