Chandigarh, July 26

Clarifying its stand on the SYL, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) today said only Punjab had full right on its river waters and Prime Minister Narendra Modi was in the best position to resolve the issue.

Addressing the media today, AAP leaders HS Phoolka, Himmat Singh Shergill and Kanwar Sandhu urged Modi to withdraw the presidential reference to the case in the SC as it was against the interest of Punjab.

They said the party had written a letter to Modi advising him to convene a meeting of the CMs of Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan to sort out the issue. Phoolka said: “Modi is in the best possible situation to solve the issue as the BJP government was in power at the Centre and in all states concerned.” “Punjab will not have a problem sharing drinking water with Delhi as it is in limited quantity and the state upholds the tradition of serving drinking water to the needy,” said Sandhu.

Dare Badal, Capt to resign before SC verdict

The leaders asked both CM Parkash Singh Badal and Congress state chief Capt Amarinder Singh to resign before the SC order rather than reacting on the verdict.

Phoolka alleged that both Congress and the SAD were indulging in political drama on the issue. “It is documented that Amarinder was with the government when the digging for the canal started. Also, the land acquisition for the canal was started when the Akali Dal was in power in the state,” he alleged.

Meanwhile, Sandhu said Phoolka would soon be holding an important party position in the state. He said this in reaction to Phoolka’s renewed interest in the party’s affairs after staying away from the limelight for a few months.
