Windfall for two-wheeler buyers

CHANDIGARH: It’s a win-win situation for customers as two-wheeler majors Hero MotoCorp, Honda Motorcycle, Scooter India and other automobiles companies are offering discounts ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 20,000 on BS-III models to liquidate stocks, a day after the Supreme Court banned the sale and registration of such vehicles from April 1.

It’s a win-win situation for customers as two-wheeler majors Hero MotoCorp, Honda Motorcycle, Scooter India and other automobiles companies are offering discounts ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 20,000 on BS-III models to liquidate stocks, a day after the Supreme Court banned the sale and registration of such vehicles from April 1.

While people thronged showrooms to utilise the opportunity, the staff at the Registering and Licensing Authority had a tough time managing the rush.

Over 600 people applied for registration of vehicles, forcing the staff to clear the pendency till late in the evening.

“The number of applications received for registration of vehicles today was double the number we used to get on other days,” said a staff member of the RLA office.

Two-wheeler showrooms witnessed an unprecedented rush after companies offered a heavy discount on the BS-III models.

Sunil Kumar, territory manager, Hero FinCorp, said they sold over 200 two-wheelers in the tricity today. The company offered a discount ranging from Rs 7,000 to Rs 12,500 on different motorcycle and scooter models.

All Activa scooters were sold before noon at Platinum Autosales in Sector 43 after the company offered a discount of Rs 15,000. Abhishek Chhibber, sales manager, said they sold 126 two-wheelers today. Discounts were also offered at the TVS and the Bajaj showrooms at Sectors 35 and 22, respectively.

Subham, a youth from Sector 22, said he could not believe he bought his favourite bike at such a huge discount. He said his parents immediately agreed to buy a bike for him after hearing of the discount. Suresh Chand, a customer, said he skipped office after he came to know of the heavy discount offered by companies.

RLA staff have a tough time
