About 95% of the total aspiring teachers have failed to qualify the Haryana Teacher Eligibility Test (HTET) conducted by the Haryana Board of School Education (HBSE).

The HTET, a pre-requisite to become government teachers in the state education department, was organised on January 5-6.

A total of 3,32,366 candidates appeared in all the three categories, of which 14,934 have been declared successful. Among the applicants, 2,31,885 were female, of which 8,766 (3.8%) cleared the examination, while of the 1,0,0478 male candidates, 6,168 (6.1%) declared successful. All the three transgender candidates failed to clear the test.

HBSE chairperson Jagbir Singh, while announcing the results on Wednesday, said the test was conducted under three different categories—level 1 (primary teacher), level 2 (trained graduate teacher-TGT) and level 3 (post graduate teacher—PGT).

He said the level-3 test had the lowest pass percentage of 2.55%, while the success rate in the level-1 and level-2 exams was 5.71% and 4.77%, respectively.
