68.80% turnout in Chamba

CHAMBA: District Election Officer (DEO)-cum-Deputy Commissioner Harikesh Meena has confirmed that the final voter turnout in the five Assembly segments of Chamba district, as per the Poll Day Monitoring System (PDMS), is 68.80 per cent.

District Election Officer (DEO)-cum-Deputy Commissioner Harikesh Meena has confirmed that the final voter turnout in the five Assembly segments of Chamba district, as per the Poll Day Monitoring System (PDMS), is 68.80 per cent.

Addressing mediapersons here on Monday, the DC said the percentage had been calculated on the basis of the total voter turnout in the five segments — Churah-SC (72.57%), Bharmour-ST (64.50%), Chamba (70.72%), Dalhousie (69.40%), and Bhattiyat (66.65%).  

He said the highest turnout (95.15%) was recorded at the polling station at Government Senior Secondary School, Salooni, in the Dalhousie constituency. The booth was managed by women staff.

In Churah, the turnout at the Rudal polling station was recorded at 92.16 per cent, Hudan Bhatori in Bharmour 89.59 per cent, Balera in Chamba 86.06 per cent and Dhoda Sapar in Bhattiyat 83.19 per cent.

DEO said 100-year old Sardar Piyar Singh cast his vote at Hatnala polling station in Chamba. Special arrangements had been made for the voters with disabilities, he added.  

The EVMs and VVPATs of the five assembly constituencies in district had been taken to strong rooms in Government Polytechnic College at Sarol near Chamba town.
