After several incidents of online cheating and looting money from people by inducement/ fraudulent means were reported, Rajouri SSP Yougal Manhas has issued an advisory, alerting people not to fall prey to such cheats.

The advisory was issued to make people aware after several complaints of online/ telephonic cheating running in several lakhs came to the fore.

Recently, the Jammu Crime Branch had busted a gang of cheats, comprising of government employees and advocates, in Poonch district on the complaints of people who were duped of several crores.

The Rajouri police have also arrested some people running a company that claimed to double the money within shortest period.

“People have been falling prey to cheats despite multiple advisories issued by the J&K police in the past,” he said. “We advise people not to transfer money into accounts of persons impersonating as representatives of lottery set up,” he stated.

People have been advised not to disclose their ATM card number, PIN code and OTPs to persons calling themselves bank representatives and not surf websites on social media having dubious nature, dealing in money transactions and seeking bank details.

The SSP advised people not to share online banking IDs and passwords with anyone. By taking such measures, people can protect their hard earned money, he added.
