Health workers from nearby districts in city

AMRITSAR: Health staff, including doctors, paramedics along with ambulances, from Amritsar, Tarn Taran and Gurdaspur are stationed at hospitals in the city to deal with the medical emergency arising out of the Friday’s tragedy.

Health staff, including doctors, paramedics along with ambulances, from Amritsar, Tarn Taran and Gurdaspur are stationed at hospitals in the city to deal with the medical emergency arising out of the Friday’s tragedy.

Even the civil surgeons of Tarn Taran and Gurdaspur camped at the Civil Hospital along with Amritsar Civil Surgeon Dr Hardeep Singh Ghai to help manage the situation.

Talking to The Tribune, Dr Ghai said, “Even doctors from private hospitals are helping us in this time of need. To deal with the need of medicines, the warehouse in Verka also remained open throughout the night.”

Apart from the Civil Hospital and the Guru Nanak Dev Hospital, 12 patients are admitted at Amandeep Hospital, two at the military hospital, one at Hartej Hospital, four at Shri Guru Ram Das Hospital, four at Fortis hospital and one at KD Hospital. Officials said the condition of three patients at Fortis and one at KD Hospital was critical.

Dr Ghai said leaves of the health employees were cancelled and the condition of patients was being monitored round the clock. The department had to shift patients with serious head injuries to private hospitals to avail the services of neurosurgeons.

Health officials said the bodies, except three, had been identified and handed over to families after postmortem examination. Dr Ghai also thanked the residents for assisting the hospitals in dealing with the situation.
