Mohali: A 39-year-old cyclist was killed after a Punjab Roadways bus hit him at the Phase 7 light point in Mohali on Tuesday. The victim, Dinesh Sharma, fell down after being hit by the bus.

He was taken to a hospital in Sohana, where he died during the treatment. A native of Bihar, Dinesh was residing in Sector 47, Chandigarh, and is survived by five daughters. The bus driver, Amreek Singh, a resident of Fatehgarh Sahib, has been booked under Sections 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way), 304-A (causing death by negligence) and 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees) of the IPC. 2 booked for dowry harassment

Zirakpur: The police have registered a dowry harassment case against a man and his mother on Tuesday following investigation into a complaint filed by the victim. On the complaint of a woman of Zirakpur, the police booked her husband Mohit Kumar and her mother-in-law Kamlesh Dhiman, a resident of Kurukshetra. The complainant told the police that soon after the marriage, the accused started harassing her mentally and physically for bringing less dowry. OC

3 drug peddlers arrested

Kharar: The police have arrested three drug peddlers following the recovery of 30 grams of heroin from their possession. ASI Jiwan Singh was patrolling near Bhagat Ghat when he saw three persons coming on foot. On seeing the police party, they tried to escape. However, the police caught hold of them. During a search, the police recovered 10 grams of heroin from each of the accused identified as Mir Yunib Khalib, a resident of Shivalik City, and Faizal Mehmood and Adan, both residents of Ansal API. A court on Wednesday sent the accused to one-day police remand. OC

Campaign launched

Chandigarh: With an aim to strengthen the Congress at the ground level, Chandigarh Congress president Pradeep Chhabra started a campaign, Jan Sampark Abhiyan, from Sector 42 here on Wednesday. Chhabra said in Chandigarh this campaign would continue till November 19, which is observed as the birthday of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. He said the party workers would go from home to home and campaign for the party’s policies. He said the failure of the Modi government would also be highlighted during the campaign. TNS
