Rasana (Kathua), April 18

Women outnumbered men in voting at Rasana village that came in the limelight after the infamous rape and murder of a minor nomadic girl in January 2018.

Although all villagers were keen to cast their votes, women were more enthusiastic about exercising their right to franchise in the village. By 2 pm, almost 65 per cent voters had voted at the Dhamayal polling station set up for Patta, Rasana, Bariar and Dhamayal villages.

“I have not seen such enthusiasm among women voters in my life,” said octogenarian Mela Ram, a resident of the village. He recalled that he had cast ballot in almost all elections, but it was for the first time he was seeing such zeal among women to vote.

Similar scenes were witnessed at Kootha. Though the polling started at 7 am, villagers started lining up at the polling stations since 6 am. — TNS
