SI caught taking Rs 10,000 bribe

A sub-inspector (SI) posted at the Dera Bassi police station was caught by the Vigilance Bureau while allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 10,000 here today. The suspect has been identified as Harjit Singh.

The Dera Bassi police had registered a case against four youths of Samgoli village, Dera Bassi, for allegedly stealing the record of land. The youths alleged that society members had illegally sold the said land. It has been learnt that the SI had demanded Rs 10,000 from the youths to remove their names from the FIR. Vigilance sleuths laid a trap and caught the SI while taking Rs 10,000 as bribe.

DSP (Vigilance) Harvinder Pal Singh said they had arrested him while taking the bribe and the matter was being probed.
