With the Swachh Survekshan (cleanliness survey) 2018 and Mahashivratri round the corner, the health wing of the Municipal Corporation (MC) conducted a meeting with members of temple committees and religious organisations here yesterday.

Municipal Health Officer Dr Raju Chowan asked the office-bearers of the religious organisations to take permission before organising langar. He said, “If they get permission, the organisers’ location will be in our mind, thus we will be able to keep a check on cleanliness. The temple committees and organisers of langar will be responsible for the cleanliness in the area. If the place after langar is found littered, the errants will be challaned.”

The MC officials have also urged the langar committees to not use any plastic container to serve the food. The Swachh Survekshan 2018 team of the Central Government is expected to arrive next week.

The MC has installed 100 flex boards to make the residents aware of the components of the Swachh Survekshan. Various special awareness programmes are being organised at ward level. The MC has also been installing dustbins at different places in the city.

“We have been conducting awareness programmes at the ward level. I have asked the councillors to motivate their supporters and residents to download the Swachhata app,” he said.

Only 4,000 residents have downloaded the Swachhata app. The MC requires around 14,000 downloads to get 150 marks to get a higher rank in the Swachh Survekshan 2018. “We are making efforts but the residents are not cooperating with us. Despite hundreds of awareness functions at different colleges and wards, residents are not downloading the app which will help us to get a good rank,” he added.
