Nihangs, Satkar committee members booked for clashes

AMRITSAR: The local police have registered cases against members of Nihang organisations and Shri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar Committee in connection with clashes that took place on Sunday and Monday.

The local police have registered cases against members of Nihang organisations and Shri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar Committee in connection with clashes that took place on Sunday and Monday.

On Sunday, two groups had clashed, leaving Ranjit Singh ‘Bhittewad’, a Nihang; and a Satkar panel leader, whose name is also Ranjit Singh, injured.

On Monday, Satkar committee supporters attacked Nihang Ranjit Singh ‘Bhittewad’ at Government Medical College Hospital. In the attack, Manjit Singh, a Nihang, was also critically injured.

On the basis of a complaint filed by Baba Major Singh Sodhi, chief, Tarna Dal, a case under Sections 307, 323, 324, 506, 148,149 of the IPC has been registered against Satkar committee leaders — Balbir Singh Muchal, Surjit Singh Khosa, Paramjit Singh Akali, Harpreet Singh Meera Kot, Punjab Singh Sultanwind, Gurmail Singh Rajasansi, Dilbagh Singh Sir Lath Khalsa and Manpreet Singh Azaad.

ASI Baldev Singh from the Majitha road police station said no arrest had been made so far.

Meanwhile, the Rajasansi police have registered a case under Sections 365, 382, 341, 342, 323, 295, 427, 506, 148 and 149 of the IPC against Major Singh, Bhupinder Singh, Vicky Rajasansi, Nishan Singh, Lovepreet Singh and 15 unidentified persons, who belong to Nihang organisations.

The case was registered on a complaint of Satkar committee leader Ranjit Singh. He told the police the accused had intercepted and manhandled them near Kotla Doom village when they were going on bikes.

The complainant said the victims were kept hostage for more than three hours. He said the accused also abused them.

Ranjit said they were rescued by other committee members and shifted to a hospital in Lopoke.
