24-year-old impersonating as cop held

CHANDIGARH: The UT police have arrested a 24-year-old youth riding an SUV for impersonating as a cop.

The UT police have arrested a 24-year-old youth riding an SUV for impersonating as a cop. The police also recovered a knife from the suspect.

According to the police, they had information that a person claimed himself to be a Punjab Police Inspector and cheats people on the pretext of providing them jobs in the Punjab Government and the Railways Department.

Acting on the tip-off, a team of the Sector 39 police station laid a naka near the Grain Market chowk in Sector 39 on October 17 and nabbed the suspect riding Ford Endeavour while wearing police uniform.

The police said the victim had been identified as Gautam Kumar, a resident of Vikas Nagar, Mauli Jagran.

A case under Section 171 (wearing garb or carrying token used by public servant with fraudulent intention) of the IPC and Sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act has been registered against the suspect. TNS
