Day after, 9 booked for youth’s murder

MOHALI:A day after a 23-year-old PGI safai karamchari was shot dead allegedly by two motorcycle-borne youths in Nayagaon, the police have booked nine persons — Aakash, Deepak, Amandeep, Nanu, Shamu, Udu and Shallu, and two others, all residents of Janta Colony, Nayagaon.

A day after a 23-year-old PGI safai karamchari was shot dead allegedly by two motorcycle-borne youths in Nayagaon, the police have booked nine persons — Aakash, Deepak, Amandeep, Nanu, Shamu, Udu and Shallu, and two others, all residents of Janta Colony, Nayagaon.

According to the police, the names have been included after recording the statements of the family and other witnesses.

Saurabh, alias Mandy, received two bullets while four shots were reportedly fired at him by the assailants. The incident took place at Adarsh Nagar Colony where the accused arrived and the pillion rider opened fire at Saurabh. He was taken to the PGI where he was declared brought dead. The SHO of the Nayagaon police station, Bhagwant Singh, said the accused as well as the deceased had a criminal past and it was a case of old enmity.

According to the police, the victim was involved in 11 assault and snatching cases registered in Chandigarh and Mohali. The police suspect that this could be a case of a gang war or a deal gone bad. The accused have a shady past and have been involved and convicted in multiple cases.
