Mohali, June 13

The District Child Protection Unit conducted a raid against child begging and rescued two girls who were seeking alms.

The team visited several locations such as PTL Chowk, PCL light point, and Godrej light point. The rescue operation was conducted jointly with the Police Department.

Navpreet Kaur, District Child Protection Officer, said the rescued girls were aged between 14 and 15 years. They were counselled and it was revealed during probe that their family belonged to Rajasthan. A warning was given to their parents to ensure that they would not indulge their children in begging or any such activity in future.

She appealed to the public not to give alms to such children as it encourages their parents who forcefully indulge their children in such acts. — TNS
