New Delhi, June 1

Delhi University today received 30900 applications for over 60,000 seats in various undergraduate courses in the first six hours of the launch. With the university going completely online for undergraduate admissions, the footfall on the first day of the counselling sessions for aspirants- Open Days- remained over 1,000 on North Campus here.

"About 30,900 candidates have registered in the first six hours and of them 5,600 have completed the process, including fee payment," DU's Dean of Students Welfare Prof J M Khurana said.

The highlight was Open Days with more than 1,000 students and parents attending it at the Conference Centre.

As expected there were plenty of queries, ranging from computation of best-four percentage, eligibility criteria for Economics, confusion over Mass Communication as being an elective or not and some of the offbeat courses across the disciplines.

The university has for the first time switched to online medium of registration for undergraduate admissions unlike previous years when it used to be both online and offline. DU Deputy Dean of Students' Welfare Dr Gurpreet Tuteja apprised the participants of the documents to be submitted for admission and also explained them the entire procedure.

Such counselling sessions will continue till June 11 and will be held across a host of venues. The sessions will take place in two batches from 10 am to 1 pm and 4-7 pm from June 1 to 4 at the Conference Centre. The venue for the same on June 6 will be SGTB Khalsa College followed by Sri Venketeswara College next day. Such sessions would be held at Zakir Hussain College and at South Campus on June on 8-9 and 10-11 respectively.

The online registration process began at 12 pm today and will continue till June 19. A few complaints came in about the admission portal going slow but the authorities stated that they had arranged for servers keeping in mind the expected rush on the website. Students should check after some time in case they encounter any problem on the site.

Prospective candidates have to register on du.ac.in. wherein centralised Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) forms are available.

After registering themselves on the university's admission portal, the students are supposed to upload "self-attested and scanned" copies of their documents after following the mentioned instructions and then make the payment online.

Students will have to make the payment through Internet banking. The fee for General category students is Rs 100 whereas for SC/ST students the admission form will cost Rs 50. Students can aply for as many courses they want without any extra fees.

Admission bulletin will be available online. For PWD candidates two centres are exclusively dedicated both on North and South campuses.

After announcement of the cut-off list, the students will have to log into their registered account and see the courses and colleges in which their percentage figures in the cut-off list, select the desired combination and then take a print out of the admission form.
