Just over a month after the process for recruiting 4,500 ETT teachers in Punjab was stayed, Justice Jaswant Singh of the Punjab and Haryana High Court today paved the way for the appointments by dismissing a petition filed in the matter.

The process was earlier stayed after the High Court was told that the result of the elementary teachers training (ETT) diploma course examination had not been declared by the government. Yet the cut-off date was fixed for June 2 for clearing all objections.

Appearing before the Bench, counsel for the affected candidates Amit Shukla contended that the matter had been rendered infructuous as the result of the petitioners had been declared. He also told the court that a similar petition and appeal had already been dismissed by another Bench.

The developments took place on the petition filed against the state and other respondents by Yograj Singh and other petitioners. Their counsel had submitted on the petitioners’ behalf that public notice dated May 27, stipulating June 2 as cut-off date for clearing all objections, had been uploaded on the official website of the respondent.

The court was told that the petitioners were TET-qualified candidates, who applied for the advertised posts. The recruitment process involved 4,500 vacancies of ETT teachers in the Education Department.

The court was also told that a similar and identical matter had already been listed on May 25. Taking a note of the submissions, the court on June 2 had asserted: “In the meantime, the recruitment process is stayed. The date of clearing of objections is kept in abeyance till further orders”.
