Ludhiana, May 6

A city resident alleged harassment by an automobile dealer. Mayadevi, a local resident, alleged that officials of Dada Motors and insurance company Bharti AXA were harassing her by not returning the Mahindra Scorpio car she had bought from the dealer on instalments in 2014.

She said that the car met with an accident during a visit to Paonta Sahib within two months after it was purchased. She said the vehicle was towed back and was given to Dada Motors for repair, which the dealer did not return even after instalments of the vehicle were being withdrawn from her bank account. She alleged that a large a sum was being demanded from her for returning the vehicle. She added that her family was poor and they had been waiting for the retrieval of the vehicle for long.

However, the dealer denied the allegations. Bhupinder Singh, service adviser at Dada Motors, said Mayadevi was refusing to pay Rs 15,000. He said the repair of the car’s chasis had been done and the insurance amount from the insurance company was claimed but the engine of the vehicle was not covered under insurance. “When Mayadevi was told that the repair of the engine would cost Rs 1 lakh, she refused to pay the amount. We told her to pay some amount to take the vehicle back and get it repaired from elsewhere if she was finding it too expensive from the company showroom but she has not paid the amount yet,” he said.
