Srinagar, June 18
The Unlawful Activities Prevention Tribunal will hold sittings at the J&K High Court here from June 19 to 21 to look into the evidence supporting the declaration of Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI), Jammu & Kashmir, as an unlawful association.
The Tribunal will be presided over by Delhi High Court Judge Justice Chander Shekhar. It has received three affidavits from three witnesses from Kupwara, Ganderbal and Pulwama districts.
The Centre, in its February 28 notification banning JeI — one of the largest religio-political organisation of the state — had said it was of the opinion that the Jamaat is “in close touch with militant outfits” and that the outfit claims “secession of a part of the Indian territory from the union.”
