Four tribal girls and a boy, who went to collect date palms and take a bath, drowned in a muddy pond on Wednesday night at Obari village, 35 km from Dungarpur district.
They were identified as Nivya (7), Mamta (8), Kali (8), Anjali (11) and Roshan (10), SHO Sagwara police post Govind Singh Rajpurohit said. The victims belonged to a joint family of farm labourers and used to go to collect fallen date palm scattered near the pond.
Yesterday, they probably stepped into the water to take a bath but could not come out. Their clothes were found lying near the site. The bodies were taken out from the 8-ft-deep pond and autopsy was performed before handing those to their parents, SHO said.
Meanwhile, a woman and her daughter-in-law were found murdered in Jaipur’s New Khandelwal Nagar area on Thursday. The deceased were Nathi Devi (46) and Santosh (30). — OC
