Senior officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) expressed their displeasure at the tardy pace of work on the Integrated Check Post (ICP), also known as the passenger terminal building, and asked the Mumbai-based construction company to increase its work force to meet the October 31 deadline.

The multi-storied ICP, being constructed on a 50 acre, is an integral part of the Kartarpur corridor project.

Gobind Mohan, Additional Secretary of the MHA, chaired a two-hour meeting that was also attended by Akhil Saxena, member of the Land Ports Authority of India (LPAI) —- entrusted by the Centre to establish the ICP through Mumbai-based Shapoorji Pallonji Group. Jeetendra Singh, Vice President of Ceigall India Limited, which is constructing the corridor road, Gurdaspur DC Vipul Ujwal and Dera Baba Nanak SDM Gursimran Singh also attended the meeting.

Cabinet minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa was apprised of the developments after the meeting.

A spokesman for Shapoorji Pallonji said the company had been asked to increase manpower and put in place extra facilities and equipment.

The roof (frame) of the ICP, a dome-shaped structure, is being built in Delhi. “It is huge. It will be brought from the Capital in parts and installed before August 31,” said an official of the construction firm.
