Patiala: The police have dismissed ASI Renu Bala and her husband ASI Surinder Singh from service after they were found involved in drug trafficking. The police had arrested Renu with 50-gm heroin from the Patti bus stand in Tarn Taran on October 29 and later registered a case against her and Nishan Singh under the NDPS Act. Renu was arrested when she had reached there to deliver a consignment to Nishan Singh. TNS

HC comes to aid of rape victim
Chandigarh: The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Friday directed the Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary (Home) and other departments to ensure quick reimbursement of bills and medical expenditure incurred in a delivery after pregnancy of a mentally challenged rape victim could not be terminated as it was in advanced stage. Acting on a plea by the rape victim’s father, Justice Sanjay Kumar added the amount would be reimbursed “without unnecessary red tape”. TNS
Blood donors honoured
Barnala: Health and Family Welfare Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu on Friday honoured blood in Barnala to mark the National Voluntary Blood Donation Day. He felicitated 13 organisations which arranged over 2,000 blood units for blood banks, 11 donors who donated blood over 100 times and 15 women who donated over 10 times. TNS
