Three youths held with 2.6-kg opium, weapon

Tarn Taran, February 6

A team of the local CIA staff, led by Sub-Inspector Baldev Singh, on Thursday nabbed three youths from the border area village of Bhuse and recovered 2.660 kg of opium, one 32 bore pistol and five live cartridges. The police also took into their custody two cars of the accused. Two of their associates managed to escape from the spot.

Jagjit Singh Walia, SP (Investigation), informed newsmen here that the arrested accused had been identified as Harjit Singh of Khalra, Lovejit Singh Love of Kot Harnam Das (Amritsar) and Mandeep Singh Monu of Attari. Their two associates, identified as Navdeep Singh of Chhehtra and Jaimal Singh of Pakka Pind, managed to escape.

The SP said a case under Sections 18, 29, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act and Sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act had been registered by the Sarai Amanat Khan police.

The SP said the police party was on patrol when the accused were seen roaming in suspicious circumstances at Bhuse village.
