Tarn Taran, August 13
The ‘Punjab Bandh’ call impacted the life of residents in Tarn Taran on Tuesday. The shutdown call was given by the followers of Saint Ravidas and Maharishi Valmiki organisations against the demolition of a temple in Delhi on the orders of the Supreme Court.
Most of the private schools were closed and the attendance of students in government schools was also below normal. People preferred to remain indoor. Buses hardly found passengers as roads wore a deserted look. Shops remained closed.
Workers of Dalit organisations, under the banner of Bhagwan Valmiki Shakti Sangathan, held a rally at the local Gandhi Municipal Park and then marched through market areas of the town. The police had made tight security arrangement on the march route.
The normal life in Patti, Khadoor Sahib, Khemkaran, Bhikhiwind, Gandiwind, Harike, Cholha Sahib and other areas was hit as shops and other commercial establishments remained shut. The shutdown resulted in an inconvenience to residents.
