Lack of security at Guru Nanak Dev Hospital (GNDH) has come to fore with the authorities nabbing an outsider conducting ECG tests at emergency ward.

The accused identified as, Rakesh Kumar, a resident of Medical Enclave, even used machine owned by the hospital to conduct tests and charged money from patients. The hospital authorities stated that the said person had taken out ECG and blood sugar testing equipment without any authorisation.

Medical Superintendent, Dr Ram Sarup Sharma, said Rakesh was handed over to the police. He said they were also investigating why hospital employees did not stop him from using hospital equipment.

Earlier, the hospital had faced allegations of private lab employees collecting samples of patients inside wards. However, it is for the first time that a person using hospital equipment to conduct tests was caught red-handed.

Sources at the hospital said the accused was brother of a hospital employee. They said the accused gained access to the government equipment through his brother.

Dr Sharma said no private person could collect samples of any kind or conduct any tests in government hospital. He said a thorough inquiry of the case would be conducted and a logical conclusion would be drawn.

Patients and their attendants at the hospital have often accused employees of getting tests conducted from private laboratories even as the facility for the same was available at the hospital. Such instances show indifference of government hospitals in dealing with patients.
