Two caught with illegal firearms

AMRITSAR: The rural police have arrested Harvinder Singh of Muradpura village for allegedly possessing an illegal firearm.

The rural police have arrested Harvinder Singh of Muradpura village for allegedly possessing an illegal firearm.

He was held at a naka (checkpoint) near Cambridge School. The police recovered a 7.65 mm pistol along with three cartridges from him. He could not produce arm licence. Interrogation revealed that he bought the arms from Baajpur district in Uttar Pradesh. A case under the Arms Act has been registered against him. The police said further investigation was on to ascertain whom did he procure it from and the purpose behind buying it

In another incident, the Gharinda police recovered a service pistol of a sub-inspector which was stolen in October last year. Kulwinder Singh of Gharinda was arrested with the firearm. The pistol was stolen along with 30 rounds from the government accommodation of Sub-Inspector Ram Singh. The police zeroed in on Kulwindre Singh and finally nabbed him.
