A 22-year-old woman, Sukhwinder Kaur, committed suicide on Sunday. Four of her in-laws family have been booked for forcing her to end her life. ASI Sanjeev Singh, investigating officer, said the accused had been identified as Harpreet Singh Happy, his father Sukhdev Singh, mother Harjinder Kaur and brother Jhilmil Singh.
Gurmeet Kaur of Marimegha village, mother of the deceased, stated in her complaint that the accused had abducted Sukhwinder in 2013 when she was a teenager and got her married to Harpreet Singh. Since Sukhwinder couldn’t conceive, her in-laws had been torturing her mentally as well as physically, she alleged. She went into depression and eventually ended her life, the complainant said. The police have slapped Sections 306 and 34 of the IPC. — OC
