District Youth Parliament for 3 dists held at MRSPTU

BATHINDA: Under the Government of India initiative, a District Youth Parliament (DYP) was organised at Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University, Bathinda, where selected candidates spoke on the four specific topics to document their opinions on vision of New India.

Under the Government of India initiative, a District Youth Parliament (DYP) was organised at Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University, Bathinda, where selected candidates spoke on the four specific topics to document their opinions on vision of New India.

The DYP festival for Bathinda, Mansa and Muktsar districts was conducted at the university in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India.

Prominent institutes like Central University of Punjab, Guru Kashi University, MRSPTU, Giani Zail Singh Campus College of Engineering and Technology (GZSCCET), SSD College and PIT, Nandgarh, participated in the screening. Persons in the age group of 18 and 25 years participated in the youth parliament.

The screening of this competition was carried out in two steps — digital and walk-in. A total of 84 candidates were selected for participation in the district youth parliament from Bathinda, Mansa and Muktsar.

The jury members were Dr Jatinder Singh Brar, Director, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Bathinda, Dr VP Mittal, former director, Punjab Agriculture University Research Centre, Bathinda, Col Virender Kumar, Prof AK Goel, Director, College Development Council , MRSPTU, Prof GS Baath, Khushveer Sidhu, All India Radio, Bathinda, Harjot Singh Sidhu and Shalini Seth from Mata Sahib Kaur College.

Out of a total of 84 participants, five were shortlisted (three selected, two waiting), who would participate in the State Youth Parliament.

Prof (Dr) Jasbir Singh Hundal, registrar, MRSPTU, who was the chief guest on the occasion, said this initiative would pave the way for future leaders of the country.

GZSCCET campus director Prof (Dr) Savina Bansal was the guest of honour. She congratulated the teachers who were involved in organising the festival.

All participants were given away certificates of participation by the chief guest and the judges.

MRSPTU NSS co-ordinator Ranjit Kaur welcomed the participants. She said it was part of the process of National Youth Festival 2019, which is organised under National Service Scheme (NSS), Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India.
