Malout, June 14

The aquaculture seems to have proved a boon for the waterlogging affected farmers. For instance, Davinder Singh of Enakhera village in Malout sub-division is earning profit from barren land that too by taking it on lease.

He has now even adopted dairy farming as another subsidiary profession and that too without taking any loan.

Narrating his story, Davinder Singh said, “Our village is waterlogging affected from the past about two decades. Now, fish farming has proved a boon for people like us. The government has given a huge subsidy to promote fish farming and as a result a number of farmers adopted this profession. Now, we people are getting good profit from even infertile land.”

He further said, “Now, I have a fish pond in nearly 10 acres and getting a net profit of about Rs 1 lakh per acre. Now, I have set up my own dairy farm, having 26 milch animals and that too without taking any advances. The other waterlogging affected farmers should start fish farming.”

About the success journey of this farmer, Sumeet Jarangal, Deputy Commissioner, Muktsar, said, “Farmers like Davinder Singh are a source of inspiration for many others. The farmer should start other subsidiary professions with farming, which give huge benefit. Fish farming has changed the lives of a number of waterlogging affected farmers in the district. Maximum number of farmers should avail the benefit of subsidy being provided under various schemes of the government.”
