Chandigarh, April 25

Two persons were acquitted by a court on Wednesday in a theft case as the prosecution failed to prove evidence. In yet another case, two persons were acquitted of robbery charges. The case of theft pertains to July 2017 when a man reported that his Activa scooter was stolen while he had gone to withdraw money from an ATM.

As per the complaint of Sandeep Sachdeva, on July 4, 2017, he had gone to withdraw money from an ATM in Sector 35. At around 2:30 pm, he left his scooter with the keys in it. When he returned with the money, his scooter was missing. On his complaint, an FIR under Section 379 of the IPC was registered. Later, Ravinder Kumar, alias Jony, and Ganga Ram were arrested by the police.

However, during the trial, various contradictions emerged in the statement of the complainant and the police personnel. Hence, the prosecution failed to prove the case. As a result, the two were acquitted by the court.

In the second case, two persons, Rocky, alias Bunty, and Neeraj, were acquitted in a robbery case. On January 25, 2017, at about 10:15pm, a transporter, Parkash Singh, along with Satdeep and Amandeep, were sitting in Ram Darbar and having liquor. As per allegations, Parkash had gone to take some documents from a vehicle. However, it started raining and in order to protect himself, he headed to a tent nearby. It was alleged that Rocky and Neeraj, who were known to the complainant, were also present in the tent. After the accused asked Parkash why he had come there, it resulted in an argument.

The accused then allegedly hurled abuses and started beating Parkash with iron rods resulting in a head injury. Amandeep and Satdeep reached the spot after Parkash raised an alarm. Parkash lost consciousness and in the meantime Rs 32,000 was stolen from his pocket, he claimed. His car was also damaged. Meanwhile, Amandeep was also thrashed with sticks and his purse containing Rs 5,000 in cash, his Aadhaar card, voter-I card and ATM card were also taken from him, as per him.

After their statement was recorded by the police, a case under Sections 397 and 394, IPC, was registered. The prosecution, however, could not prove the allegations and the said amount was not recovered from the accused.
