765 head of cattle entered P’kula from neighbouring cities: Report

PANCHKULA: In a report submitted by the Animal Husbandry Department to Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mukul Kumar it has been stated that more than 765 head of stray cattle entered the city during late night hours.

In a report submitted by the Animal Husbandry Department to Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mukul Kumar it has been stated that more than 765 head of stray cattle entered the city during late night hours.

The department submitted the report to the DC after conducting a survey. In the report it has been mentioned that the stray cattle came into the city from entry points as there was no check.

Now, the DC has written to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) and the Municipal Corporation (MC) to plug routes to restrict the entry of cattle from the neighbouring areas.

He has also asked the MC authorities to constitute a team, which would regularly check these entry points till the construction of the cowshed in Sukhdarshanpur village, near Raipur Rani, in the district.

According to the report stray cattle enters the city from the Mauli Jagran area to Sector 17, from Majri Chowk in Old Panchkula to Sector 20, from the Baltana area to Sector 19 and from Dhakoli in Zirakpur to Industrial Area, Phase II.

Stray cattle can be seen on main roads during the day as well as the night time. The areas worst affected by stray cattle menace are the sectors across Ghaggar river.

It is pertinent to mention here that as the DC and Haryana Chief Secretary had to file an action taken report, the former had directed the Animal Husbandry Department to conduct a survey in this regard.

Advocate Pankaj Chandgothia and his wife Sangeeta, had field a public interest litigation (PIL) in the court seeking “relief” from the stray cattle as many fatal accidents had been reported due to this menace in the city.
